Friday, May 17: Industrial robots and week one in review

The topic in class today was industrial robots, such as those found in car assembly lines or the robots used by Iron Man to build his suits. This was a change from the small mechatronic robots we had used until that point. We learned how to give the robots a new coordinate system and to pick up wooden blocks and set them in a specific location.

The topic in class today was industrial robots, such as those found in car assembly lines or the robots used by Iron Man to build his suits. This was a change from the small mechatronic robots we had used until that point. We learned how to give the robots a new coordinate system and to pick up wooden blocks and set them in a specific location. We also did an exercise where we programmed the robots to pass blocks to each other all the way around the classroom. It was stressful making sure the robots didn’t bump into each other or drop the blocks but eventually my partner and I got our robot working correctly.

This was probably my favorite day of class so far. I got really sick last weekend and missed the first two days of class, so it was challenging trying to catch up with the mechatronic robots on Wednesday and Thursday. It was refreshing to start a new topic and find some success in the exercises today.

This weekend, we are planning to visit Lucerne, a city in the mountains that is popular with tourists. I was not able to get outside last Sunday, so I am really excited to see another part of Switzerland.
