Wednesday, May 29: Mt. Fuji excursion

Today, we met in the hotel lobby to discuss the previous day. We talked about the positives and negatives of the extended reality equipment at Tokyo Tower. Then, we took a two-hour bus ride to Mount Komagatake, hoping to get a great view of Mount Fuji. Along the way, we saw many beautiful mountains with towns nestled in them.

We also stopped at a rest area that offered plenty of food options, including a bakery.

When we arrived at the bottom of Mount Komagatake, we took a cable car to ascend, and we enjoyed incredible views.

We were supposed to have a view of Mount Fuji, but clouds blocked it. It was fascinating being at cloud level and even inside them at times. Then, we took a 15-minute bus ride to the Hakone Open Air Museum and saw many of Pablo Picasso’s works. The museum purchased over 300 pieces from his daughter, Maya Picasso. We learned about Picasso’s ancestry and life while observing his innovative art.

We eventually returned to the hotel, and some of us went to eat ramen at Afuri.
