Today was another free day which was dedicated to hiking between and exploring the five villages of Cinque di Terre. We split into two groups, one which would attempt to hike all four segments of the trail, and another which would only hike one.
The first group successfully made it by foot from the first village to the fourth, taking breaks to look around and eat at each village. The mountainous trail had us too exhausted to continue on, so most of us took the train to the fifth village. Two of us walked along a short path, and we all met up for dinner before heading back. We hiked 17 miles over the course of a 12-hour day.
The second group took the train to the third village and hiked to the fourth along the most difficult of the trail segments. They enjoyed some time there before returning to Monterosso to rest up and relax some more at the beach.
The trail and villages provided some of the most beautiful sights that we have ever seen, making the copious amounts of effort worth it. It’s safe to say that we all worked hard today, and it will be a very memorable day. At night, we headed to bed early to wake up and leave for Pisa tomorrow.
We also said goodbye to one of our two group leaders, Adam, today. Over the past eleven days, he proved to be a great leader and friend. From all of us, thank you Adam, and see you back at Lind Hall!
