We left Minneapolis at 7:30 pm on Tuesday night. Knowing that we had a full day planned upon arriving in Iceland, most of us tried to sleep on the plane or at least relaxed by watching the in-flight movies.
We arrived at the Reykjavik airport at 6:20 am local Iceland time and met Bo, his wife Michelle, and their 3 children who assist us as our tour guides. We then headed off to the southern coast of Iceland to take in the beautiful views of the large waves that travel all the way from Antarctica and then crash into the cliffs.
Then we went to the Blue Lagoon, one of Iceland's most famous attractions. We got to relax in the 100°F geothermal seawater for about an hour enjoying the views of the mountains and Atlantic Ocean. We also gave ourselves silica mud facials, leaving our skin feeling soft.
After relaxing at the Blue Lagoon, we went to lunch at a traditional Icelandic restaurant and we had a delicious lunch of soup and cod. Once our bellies were full and happy, Bo and his family introduced us to Iceland's geology. We took an hour climbing up a volcano, and again admired Iceland's picturesque views. We also got to see mud bubbling from the ground.
Around 5 pm we checked into our hostel, Reykjavik Backpackers. Our hostel is very centrally located, so we split into groups to go explore and find supper. It is going to be an early night for most of us, because our day was so fun and exhausting.
