Safe Arrival in Budapest

Everyone safely arrived this afternoon in Budapest. We were given the opportunity of a guided tour of the city, ending with a Hungarian dinner.
The group arrived safely in Budapest at 3:30 local time this afternoon. After gathering our luggage(which all made the trip as well), we were given a guided tour of the city. Some of the highlights from our first day was seeing the Parliament building in the downtown area, touring the Fisherman's Bastion in the foot hills just outside of downtown, and heading up into the Citadelle residentail area to take in a breathtaking view of the entire city and the Danube river.

Following our tour and checking into the hotel the students and professors enjoyed a three course meal of traditional Hungarian dishes. First served was goulash as a soup course. The main course was wiener schnitzel with fried potatoes and dinner salad. Last was a dessert called Somloi. It is sponge cake filled with chocolate and fruit then topped with chocolate sauce and served with whipped cream. Quite the way to end the first day!

Following the meal the group was ready to return to the hotel to recharge for tomorrow's lectures at the Budapest Polytechnic Univeristy.
