Day 10: Project work and fun little hike

After a long but exciting weekend in the villages, each group promptly began work on their respective water system solutions. We collected lots of data in the villages on elevation, water source locations, and population size. Every group started by mapping out their villages within Google Earth and by creating hand sketches. We created rough drafts of our presentations and some brave group members tackled a MATLAB challenge to solve a fluid system in a system of equations.

We decided on the presentation order by a friendly game that we don't quite remember the name of. The group that went to Mahenge ultimately won and chose to go first in the order.

Thankfully, as we would all agree, we were happy that today was the final day that we had to incubate our water samples. After we were all tired of working, we hiked to the top of Gangilonga Rock (The Stone That Speaks) in Iringa. While it was a short hike, there was a steep incline between two large rocks. We received a brief history lesson about the rock from Godluck, who explained how the Hehe People used to lookout for enemies from the top of the rock. Although we didn't spot any enemies today, we were treated to some spectacular views.

Before dinner, some stayed back to continue to work on our project and others went to the grocery store to buy fun snacks. On the way back, due to a slight misunderstanding, some people in our group accidentally paid 10 times the usual amount for a very short Bujaji ride. For dinner, we went to Sai Villa for a second time and had a yummy Indian buffet.
