Day 2: Bus Day (with fun and a few animal sightings)!

This morning we woke up bright and early and said kwa heri (goodbye) to Dar es Salaam. Godluck and our bus driver got us on the road to depart for the long but scenic trip to Iringa. During the trip we got snacks, played games, and saw a few animals!

This morning we woke up bright and early and said kwa heri (goodbye) to Dar es Salaam. Godluck and our bus driver got us on the road to depart for the long but scenic trip to Iringa. Before we departed, we all took bets on how long the trip would take.

We drove for a few hours until we made our first stop at a gas station where we refueled and got some wonderful Tanzanian snacks to fill up on for the rest of the trip. We played some fun games including a crossword challenge. We also had a brief sing-a-long to “Africa” by Toto with John leading us on aux. After that, we did a trivia challenge on African Countries and their locations on a map. Sophie won the first challenge and Carolyn won the second.

Then we went to lunch at Glonency 88 for a delicious meal that included a scenic view of the mountains.

As we continued our adventure to Iringa, we reached Mikumi National Park. Within the park we spotted several wild animals including wildebeest, elephants, giraffes, impalas, zebras, baboons, stork and a warthog. After we left the park we stopped for ice cream at the Tan Swiss restaurant.

After searching for animals, the group was quite tired and went down for a nap. Some of us took cat naps while some went into REM.

After 12 quick hours and 52 minutes, the bus reached the Lutheran Center. Liam was the winner of the bet with a guess of 12 hours and 26 minutes. The people at the Lutheran Center treated us to a tasty meal. After dinner, we hung out at Ken’s apartment to ring in the New Year!
