This afternoon, half the group headed to Up In the Hill, a self-sustaining farm on Bastimentos.
We traveled to the highest point on the island for a tour around the farm. We took a short hike where the owner of the farm pointed out different plants, including bamboo, pineapples, and cacao trees. As we walked the guide let us taste the different foods and smell the leaves used for teas and perfumes.
After the hike the owners set out plates for us to sample more of the fruits and made us soup. He showed us the different stages in the process for making cocoa from the cacao fruits. Then we got hot chocolate and the most delicious brownies for dessert.
