Saturday, March 14: Our last day in Panama

Today was our last day in Panama before traveling home. We were awakened at 5 a.m. for our flight to the sound of pouring rain.

Today was our last day in Panama before traveling home. We were awakened at 5 a.m. for our flight to the sound of pouring rain. We managed to make it to the airport without being soaked, just to find out that our flight had been delayed.

We finally boarded the plane and experienced a beautiful flight, complete with views of the Panama Canal.

However, our bad luck for the day had not run out. Grace managed to dislocate her hip while lifting her bag, so she and Dr. Bantz had a lovely experience at a hospital in Panama City.

While Grace and Dr. Bantz were at the hospital, the rest of us enjoyed a driving tour of Panama City, thanks to our wonderful driver Gonzalo. We managed to find a soccer field and play a round of “World Cup” before taking a picture at the iconic “Panama” sign.

We then took a tour of the “old Panama” ruins, the former capital of the country during its occupation by Spain. Although the ruins were cool, it was over 90 degrees and sunny outside, so it was a relief to get back on the bus and see that Grace and Dr. Bantz were back from the hospital, and that Grace’s hip was recovered.

After a much-needed meal, we spent some time bargain shopping in the city’s old town area before settling in at the Crowne Plaza hotel for the night. Although it was a hectic day, the group made the most of it, and reflected on all of the great times we had during our trip.
