Day 20: Project wrap-up

After a jam packed weekend all over the country, we are on the home stretch of our robot projects and this Swiss adventure.
After a jam packed weekend all over the country, we are on the home stretch of our robot projects and this Swiss adventure. Each student team is focusing on different aspects of the challenge as they work toward conquering the three race courses, but this blog post will focus on their recent successes.

Team Saftiger Döner: Today this squad perfected their program for traversing around the brick obstacle which has proven to be one of the most difficult sections of the over and around obstacle course. Collecting and containing the ping pong balls is their next goal.

Team Sweet Child O’ Line (SCOL): SCOL is most proud of their simple yet effective ping pong catcher and clever software. They are also expected to have a near Hollywood-quality video to show off their work.

Team Zee Haw: This team of cowpokes have proclaimed to be in a “great” spot heading into the final one and a half class periods of the project. Their robot, the fastest machine West of the Rhine, is well known for its agility and speed on the pedal to the metal course.

Team Swiss Cows: With a focus on smarter software, this team’s robot is taking the brainwasher race course by storm. They have recently succeeded at outsmarting the t-intersection / black box dead end; this feature offers teams the opportunity to reduce their lap time with bonus points.

Team Confederation HelvetiCar: Team CHcar just completed their first full lap of the brainwasher course thanks to their simple yet effective PD control and state based machine programing. As with the other teams’ robots, some fine tuning should be all that’s needed for a successful run on each course.

The final competition is in approximately 24 hours. Good luck to all the teams!
