Day 19: Hiking in the Alps, and an Alpine snowball fight!

We spent the morning and afternoon in Zermatt hiking up to Sunnegga today, which is about 7,506 feet. It was a grueling hike, that took about three hours, as we walked through snow and scaled up some steeper paths.
We spent the morning and afternoon in Zermatt hiking up to Sunnegga today, which is about 7,506 feet. It was a grueling hike, that took about three hours, as we walked through snow and scaled up some steeper paths. At different snow patches we found, a few of the guys would start throwing snowballs at each other as the snow was perfect for making snowballs.

On our way up, we took a few breaks and cheered on cyclists that rode past us. Once we got to the top, we all ate lunch and admired the view of the Matterhorn that we had. A few of us found a small pond/lake and took a quick swim before we headed down in the cable car.

When we got down, we all went to get our free mini-Matterhorn chocolates using the coupon on the back of our cable car passes. We then spent about an hour shopping for last minute souvenirs before heading to the train station to get back to the bus.

By the time we got on the bus, most of us were exhausted so much of the 4½ hour bus ride was spent sleeping. We stopped for dinner at a gas station as the driver had to take a mandatory break. We got back to Depot 195 at around 9 p.m. and went to bed soon after as we had to go to class the next day.
