Wednesday, Jan. 16: Visiting a clean energy company in Toledo and a walking tour of Old Madrid

Today was another interesting day. We hopped on the bus this morning and headed back to Toledo to learn more about Iberdrola, a clean energy company. We were able to learn about the different kinds of projects they are working on including wind, solar, and thermal projects.
Today was another interesting day. We hopped on the bus this morning and headed back to Toledo to learn more about Iberdrola, a clean energy company. Iberdrola is the biggest producer of wind power in the United States, United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, and Mexico. We were able to learn about the different kinds of projects they are working on including wind, solar, and thermal projects.

We were also able to see the system they use to monitor all of the the turbines, how they identify problems quickly, and dispatch help from all over the world! I didn't know you could change the angles of the blades on each turbine to ensure maximum energy collection. On our way out of town, we stopped off at a beautiful overlook in Toledo. We were able to clearly see all the places we'd visited a few days earlier AND the place we'd stayed!

Once we got back to Madrid, we grabbed a quick lunch and then set off on a walking tour of Old Madrid. We learned about the way Madrid (and Spain) were laid out and how it has changed over time. We also saw the center point for all roads in Spain as well as several statues and plazas.

Once we got done, we decided to visit the market near by to have dinner tapas style. Everyone got bites of everything and we were able to try a variety of dishes. There were also some crazy things there like this monk fish! We finished dinner with some churros and chocolate and a walk back to the hotel.
