Day 4: New Year's tradition

We experienced some new traditions for the New Year's holiday in San Juan and hiked up the Jesus En Ti Confio to see the large statue of Jesus.

We went into San Juan for the day and got to spend our morning in the beach town before lunch. We learned that the local Nicaraguans had made effigies which were filled with straw. During the New Years celebration they would burn these effigies to represent the ending of the new year, their image is believed to be reborn in 2018. After lunch we had a chance to hike up to the Jesus En Ti Confio to see the large statue of Jesus and a beautiful view of San Juan.

We went to go see Jesus En Ti Confio.
