Tuesday, March 10: Day 4—afternoon on the mainland

On Tuesday afternoon, the group split up and half of us went to the mainland to learn about Soroptimists International. Soroptimists is an organization that helps girls gain more access to education, and in Panama they give girls money so they can travel to school.

On Tuesday afternoon, the group split up and half of us went to the mainland to learn about Soroptimists International. Soroptimists is an organization that helps girls gain more access to education, and in Panama they give girls money so they can travel to school. Often the girls would not be allowed to go once they are older if their family does not have enough money to support them.

Soroptimists has helped many girls continue to get the education they need. Our group talked to a class of students about why we chose science and what being a chemist is like. We explained how scientists need to be curious and get to learn about how the world works. We told them what we do as chemists and encouraged the students to give science a try!
