On our second day in Valle Escondido, we were focused on engaging the children and teaching them how to take measurements, as well as the importance behind them. While most of the group headed up on the hike to test the water sources, a small group of us stayed back.
We started by taking pH and conductivity measurements of the water at three different houses in the community, and left the kids with notebooks and different resources to continue tracking the data on their own after we left.
After we finished with our measurements, the other group wasn’t back and we attempted to start explaining different games by translating with the best Spanish that we had. We decided to imitate duck-duck-grey-duck. Instead, we used perro and gato (dog and cat).
It was going well for a really long time until they began breaking rules and everyone broke loose. All the kids started running around and essentially playing tag instead, except almost everyone was "it." After our long morning, our group was excited to see where Valle Escondido goes from here.
