Day 7: Back in Iringa working on our designs

Hamjambo, everyone! We know we’ve given you a lot to read these past few days, so we’ll keep this blog short!

On Monday, we spent our first full day back in Iringa from our village journeys hard at work on preliminary system designs and presentations. Although this part of the project is proving to be not nearly as fun as it was to spend time with and learn from the people in the villages, it is still vital to each group’s success.

After yet another amazing breakfast by our beloved chef Harrison, students separated into village groups to start their designs. Using the information gathered in the villages along with various fluid mechanics equations, GPS maps, and other design tools preliminary designs started to come to life. Team Mlanda and Team Mibikimitali had unfortunate mishaps when they didn’t save their Google Earth data before lunch and had to start over when they got back.

Working together at this point in the process is crucial because as Paul Strykowski pointed out, the beginning of the spring semester will bring plenty of new responsibilities and packed schedules. We worked the day away and finally wrapped up around 6 p.m. We ended the evening with a lovely dinner of Indian food at Sai Villa followed by many intense games of hearts.

We may or may not have forgotten to take pictures of us doing things today, so please enjoy this picture of the Tanzanian scenery.
