Day 6: Another day in beautiful Galway!

We started today at Medtronic's Galway manufacturing site. We had the privilege of touring the clean room for drug eluting stent manufacturing.
We started today at Medtronic's Galway manufacturing site. We had the privilege of touring the clean room for drug eluting stent manufacturing. We suited up in hair nets, gowns, and shoe covers before being led through all the steps of the manufacturing process.

After the tour, we sat down for a question and answer session with three research and development engineers, one of whom was recruited to work in Galway from the United States at a Society of Women Engineers national conference.

After concluding our wonderful visit with Medtronic, we were given time to explore the city of Galway. Small groups split off and saw different parts of the city. At the National University of Ireland Galway, we took a walk along the river and visited the engineering building for the University named after Alice Perry, who was the first female engineering graduate in Ireland and Britain.

Later, we visited the Spanish Arch, a central part of trade in the city's history and a landmark since 1584. Other groups walked the Salthill Promenade to see the northern inner shore of the bay.

At the end of the day, we were surprised to catch a parade celebrating Galway's reception of the 2020 European Capital of Culture. It was an exciting way to end the day, and we'll all rest well for another busy day tomorrow.
