Day 2: Touring Dublin

Today, we had the privilege of receiving a historical tour of Dublin from Dr. McNamara, where we were able to see the Jameson Distillery, Phoenix Park, the Papal across, and even the grounds of the American Embassy in Dublin.
Today, we had the privilege of receiving a historical tour of Dublin from Dr. McNamara, where we were able to see the Jameson Distillery, Phoenix Park, the Papal across, and even the grounds of the American Embassy in Dublin.

We really enjoyed the insightful commentary provided by Dr. McNamara about Dublin, as well as the lunch recommendations! From the tour, we went directly to the Temple Bar outdoor market for lunch. From fresh coffee to potato cakes to pastries, this market had so many options, it was hard to choose just one!

The afternoon was free for exploring, and we took advantage of that opportunity. Some of us visited Dublin castle, which is full of history about visiting and local royalty. The castle was hosting an art exhibit on modern art with painters from all over Ireland.

Others decided to check out the local shops near the Jervis centre, including a lovely book shop called The Winding Stair, which featured both Irish and international works.

The night began with a light supper of charcuterie boards at Carluccio’s, and ended with an entertaining literary pub crawl. The hosts of the pub crawl acted out pieces of literature that were important to Ireland’s colorful history in the locations that were important parts of the writers’ lives, such as The Duke pub, Trinity College, and St. Andrew’s Church.

Overall, it was an amazing day in Dublin, learning all about the local history from the Viking settlements to the 20th century literature of the area.
