Sunday, Jan. 13: Touring Toledo

We spent Sunday in Toledo on a tour with my favorite archaeologist Arturo Ruiz, who also was with us four years ago. He detailed for us the Roman history of the area.

This photo shows the main north/south Roman road into the city. This shows about two-thirds of the width.

Romans were the first to use “grid street platting” and all Roman cities had two main roads, each 6 meters wide—one north and south and the second east and west. They surveyed using the sun. Arturo used the word “magicians” for surveyors. Of course I liked that!
