Project Planning

Today each project group focused on their individual projects. My particular group spent the first part of the day contemplating two ideas. One project idea involves finding a useful way to measure the depth of bore wells across Bangalore, and the other idea finding a way to increase rain water harvesting across the city.
Today each project group focused on their individual projects. My particular group spent the first part of the day contemplating two ideas. One project idea involves finding a useful way to measure the depth of bore wells across Bangalore, and the other idea finding a way to increase rain water harvesting across the city.

Prior to lunch, we spent around an hour and a half traversing the neighborhood the Indian Social Institute is situated in, and talking with residents. After a few brief conversations, we noted that residents were concerned about their bore wells only when water ceased to flow, rather than periodic depth measurements of the water level. Operating under this constraint, we determined that the rain water project would provide more beneficial to Bangalore.

For the second half of the day, two of the groups ventured to the Akvo Caddisfly lab in hopes that they would be able to answer some questions pertinent to our projects. We were met by Sam from Caddisfly, two members of Biome, and a former Acara student working on her growing business in Bangalore, Kaylea. My group asked questions about rainwater contaminants, storage, rainwater harvesting challenges and oppositions, and feasibility of our project plan. We were met with some useful answers and an overall positive response to our project proposition. We received a short tour of the facility and talked to Kaylea about her growing business.
