The Little Museum of Dublin, Museum of Modern Art, and farewell!

We went to a few museums before saying goodbye to Ireland.

We'll be leaving the the capital city soon! Hard to believe that an entire week has come and gone.

On Saturday, we visited the Little Museum of Dublin, which houses quite an interesting and eclectic mix of artifacts. It's dedicated to sharing the story of Dublin in the 20th Century. Everything in the museum has been privately donated, and our guide was quite animated and passionate as he shared the stories behind how each item was acquired. The U2 exhibit on the top floor is pretty spectacular!

After the museum, we had some free time to explore. We initially wanted to see Kilmainham Gaol, which is a famous prison that housed many of Ireland's political prisoners. However, tickets are pretty hard to come by unless you get there really early in the morning! Instead, we decided to visit the Irish Museum of Modern art, which is located in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, a former military prison. The building sat in a state of decay for many years until it was restored and reopened in 1991 as the art museum. We weren't sure what to expect, and we certainly weren't disappointed by the exhibitions.

Today, we find ourselves waiting at the airport. We hear that we're in for a frigid surprise when we return to Minnesota. Sure, we'll miss the lush green of Ireland, but there's no place like home. We're finding ways to keep ourselves amused until we board our flight. See you soon, and thanks for reading about our adventures!
