Site visit to RMIT University in Melbourne

For our last site visit, we toured RMIT University in Melbourne and learned about 3-D printing. Then we had our last group meal to say goodbye because in the next two days the group will be splitting up.

I apologize for the late post. Because of our travel days, WiFi has been limited.

For our last university visit, we toured RMIT University in Melbourne. When we arrived in the morning, we were given a lecture on 3-D printing and had the opportunity to tour the 3-D labs at the university.

We had lunch at the cafeteria and then attended a lecture by our professor from Minnesota.

After the lecture, we were given a tour of campus. The campus is integrated into Melbourne.

We first saw an old jail house that was known for it's Draconian policy of putting up wood so inmates cannot even see each other. Next, we even got to see the court room where the famous criminal Ned Kelly was sentenced to death.

Our next stop was the school's library. The front section of the library is actually dedicated to a museum. Much of the artwork was done by Australian artists.

My favorite painting is of the city of Melbourne (pictured below).

The study section of the library was stunning and almost out-did our own in Walter Library. It had amazing white ceilings and a large amount of space for students to work.

It was our last day of site visits so one of the students was leaving for home the next day. We also had reason to celebrate because it was another one of the student's birthday.

Because of this, we had our goodbye dinner tonight. We had dinner at a very nice Italian restaurant along the river.
